Back in Holland!

Hey Everybody!
Last Sunday I arrived home. When the plane landed, there was a lot of fog and rain. So I was like, yeah, I'm back in Holland again.
When I came out of the luggage claim I saw my parents and my other family and friends standing. It was so awesome to see everybody again! I could barely recognize my brother. There was a tall child standing in front of me with a big smile on his face. I was like, should I give you a hug? Because I think you're my brother, but I'm not sure...
And then when we drove home, everything was so flat. Now in Michigan it's flat too.. but it was even flatter. And on the freeway were no large pick-up trucks or land rovers. Just small cars.
When we got to my house it looked so European! It was really weird. And then the tv, it's so tiny! And there's only one of him! And the glasses were so small! They looked like my host brother Nino's cups.
Then I went out biking to the mall on Tuesday. It was so weird to see people biking! Everything was so close together! It's really strange. It surprisingly only took me less than 5 mins to get to the mall, while in my memory it was a lot further away.
I kind of have a reversed culture shock. I kind of like that though, because before I never really thought Holland had a culture. While now, I can obviously see it.
But a week later, my jet lag is getting better, and I'm getting a little bit used to everything. It's still really weird and it feels like I'm gonna go back any day now.
I've had a fantastic year in Michigan, and going on exchange is probably the best decision I've made in my life. It really opened my eyes to many things, and I've learned a lot. Also got to meet so many great people, that made my year even more awesome. I'm going to miss Michigan a lot, but fortunately I'm coming back to visit next summer! :)

Really (Anna)Minke now you are back in Holland. I can understand your feelings. Physic now you are at home but in your mind you are in the States where every thing such as homes, cars and streets are bigger then in Holland.Thinking and dreaming after 11 months in the US is normal. After some time you will be really back. Well Minke you are a lucky girl. In the 11 months you have seen a lot of Americ it's a great privilege to have been there. It won't take long before you will enjoy your home situation a nd our beutifull country. Remember that the grass is not always greener on the other side of the hills. Hopefully you will soon appreciate your living here with your lovely family. But in the mean time you can dream about your visit next year to America. (The last words are from Oma Adrie)

Na dit blogje ook je andere blogjes gelezen. Het jaar is achteraf om gevlogen. Neemt niet weg dat we heel blij zijn dat je weer in ons kikkerlandje bent en in ons very European house ;).
Je hebt minstens ook weer een jaar nodig om ons bij te praten over al je belevenissen. Gelukkig kan dat nu weer letterlijk face to face. Welkome home!!

Hi Minke!
leuk om even te lezen hoe het is voor jou om weer back in Holland te zijn. En grappig dat je blogjes te van nederlands, naar nederlands met engelse woorden, naar steeds meer engelse woorden, nu in nederland naar compleet engels is gegaan. Ja, wat een ervaringen heb je opgedaan zeg! En dan kom je terug en dan pas zie je eigenlijk pas goed wat nederland nu zo typisch nederlands maakt.... En nu natuurlijk eerst even lekker genieten van je vakantie om van al je avonturen bij te komen!
